Kukkiwon will air “Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team in Africa”, a video series documenting the overseas activities of the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team (hereinafter referred to as the "Demonstration Team"), for the first time.

This web documentary, consisting of two episodes, will premiere on Kukkiwon's official YouTube channel at 5:00 PM on December 16. It will cover the Demonstration Team's activities during their visit to three African countries.

Founded in 1972, the Demonstration Team has played a pivotal role in globalizing Taekwondo. Each year, they perform demonstrations touring over 20 countries, serving as a civilian diplomatic mission that promotes Taekwondo and South Korea across the globe.

Last September, over a ten-day period, the team visited three African countries (Zimbabwe, Gabon and Angola). During this tour, they performed three demonstrations, including one at the Korea Festival celebrating the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between South Korea and Zimbabwe, and showed the essence of Taekwondo.

Through this series, Kukkiwon will offer a rare glimpse into the various sides of the Demonstration Team, capturing the preparation process and behind-the-scenes, and promote the Demonstration Team to the general public.

The documentary, approximately 24 minutes long, will not only highlight the team's demonstration performances but also show their efforts to promote cultural exchange through visits to sports-related organizations in the host countries.

The team's continuous efforts to perfect a single performance and the wild responses from local audience will offer a moving and inspiring experience for viewers.

This is the first time Kukkiwon has documented the overseas activities of the Demonstration Team in videos. For the international audience, the documentary will also have English subtitles.

Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup said, “This series was produced to promote the Demonstration Team which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. We will continue to develop diverse content and produce videos to make Taekwondo families around the world feel more connected to the sport.”
