Capacity Building for Social Leaders through Taekwondo: "Cultivating Taekwondo Leaders"

On September 1, 1982, Kukkiwon founded the World Taekwondo Academy (WTA; first named Taekwondo Training Center) to cultivate Taekwondo leaders with expertise and sound personality with standardized curriculum aiming at the dissemination of Taekwondo spirit and skills.

In order to enhance the talents of Taekwondo leaders, the WTA is operating a variety of courses: international Taekwondo instructor course (1st-3rd course), Taekwondo Poom Dan Promotion examiner course (1st-3rd course), World Taekwondo Hanmadang referee course (1st-3rd course), disabled Taekwondo master course (3rd course), Taekwondo self-defense coach course (3rd course), 4th Poom-Dan transition refresher education course, etc.

The WTA has responded to the changes of the era to walk in step with the social environment by developing new educational methods and content. It built (and advanced) the cyber training center system and developed online education content in 2016 and 2017, established a comprehensive education plan in 2018, improved the education system, revised the regulations, and renewed the training/education textbooks in 2019, and founded the Cyber Training Center in 2020.

In 2020 in particular, the 1st-3rd international Taekwondo instructor courses that used to be available only in face-to-face mode started to be provided online, enabling trainees to take the course on theory without geographical limitations.

About 80,000 Taekwondo leaders trained by Kukkiwon are not only dedicated to the cultivation of younger Taekwondo talents but also realize the Taekwondo spirit and contribute to global society.
