Taekwondo Poom and Dan Promotion Test

Taekwondo Dan and Poom promotion test is a process that evaluates the technical and training level of achieved by the practitioners. It symbolizes authenticity and prestige of Taekwondo. The system was first established and implemented by Kukkiwon after the unification of various Taekwondo academies in August 5, 1978.

Having issued over 12 million Poom and Dan certificates, Kukkiwon strongly holds its reputation as the center of Taekwondo.

Kukkiwon’s Poom and Dan certificates are recognized as the most prestigious certificates for Taekwondo practitioners worldwide. Only holders of Kukkiwon-certified Poom and Dan ranks are eligible to compete in international Taekwondo competitions organized and hosted by World Taekwondo (WT).

Ranks are granted accordingly by evaluating practioners’ Taekwondo spirit, technical proficiency and training level. The ranking system consists of Poom (1st Poom to 4th Poom) and Dan (1st Dan to 9th Dan).
