Kukkiwon was founded on November 30, 1972 to promote the Taekwondo culture through the succession and development of the Taekwondo spirit and skills as well as contribute to human peace.

Kukkiwon is home to Taekwondo, consolidating its status as a traditional martial art and global sport and playing the leading role in developing Taekwondo into cultural content.

It will keep promoting Korea through Taekwondo, creating a "united world through Taekwondo" based on its beneficial role and function to maintain global peace and wellbeing and remaining dedicated to truthful globalization.

To this end, it will establish overseas branches, local branches, and offices to pursue the second construction of Kukkiwon for its transformation.

It will also continue endeavoring to develop Taekwondo further as a martial art and sport loved by global citizens by systematizing and standardizing its inherent precious value.
