Team Yain from Kyungmin University Wins Hanmandang’s Highlight, Team Competition

Team Competition Senior I and II Combined Division held on July 30 (Tue) Closing Ceremony held at 2 PM

Team Yain from Kyungmin University won the team competition at the 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Hanmadang (hereinafter referred to as the Hanmadang).

On July 30, at the Seonsung Hall of the Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps, Kyungmin University's Team Yain (14 members including Captain Moon Jun-ho), secured victory by scoring the highest among the eight teams in the Team Competition Senior I and II Combined Division (Domestic) with an average score of 69.2 points.

The second place went to Kyungmin University's Team Masterpiece which also scored 69.2 points and placed second last year in the same category. The third place was shared by Shinan University's Team B with 66.4 points and Team C with 62.9 points.

According to Hanmadang’s competition rules and regulations, if the final scores are tied, the team with higher expression and presentation scores is declared the winner.

The team competition involves 9 to 13 participants (including up to one male and one female substitute) performing a diverse range of Taekwondo techniques such as creative poomsae, self-defense techniques, single jump breaks, multiple target breaks, spinning breaks, group free-style breaking and power breaking within 5 minutes and 30 seconds. This category is considered the highlight of Hanmadang.

The Team Competition Senior I and II Combined Division (Domestic) features fierce competition among university demonstration teams, each representing Taekwondo-related departments and fighting for their school's honor.

Through Taekwondo, Kyungmin University's Team Yain which topped Group C in the preliminaries, captivated the audience by portraying the resistance against Japanese policemen who committed atrocities against Koreans during the late Japanese colonial period.

Moon Jun-ho, the captain of Kyungmin University's Team Yain and a senior, shared his thoughts, “As a senior, the pressure was immense since this was my last college competition. Preparing for about three months and consistently participating in other competitions to gain field experience greatly helped us.”

The Hanmadang participated by 4,446 Taekwondo family members from 55 countries over five days since July 26, concluded with a closing ceremony filled with enthusiastic energy.

The closing ceremony, held from 2 PM, was attended by Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, Mayor Shin Hyun-guk of Mungyeong City, Chairman Lee Jeong-geol of Mungyeong City Council, Chairman Lee Seong-woo of Hanmadang Organizing Committee and Hanmadang awardees.

In his closing speech, President Lee Dong-sup (also the Hanmadang President) said, “The 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Hanmadang, filled with the passionate energy of the global Taekwondo family, has come to an end after five days. I sincerely thank everyone who gave their best till the end. Cherish this beautiful and precious moment and let’s meet again next year.”
