Plaque unveiling ceremony and opening ceremony held on May 22nd (Wed) at 3:30 PM, Appointment letters awarded to key executives of the Organizing Committee

 
 

The “2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Hanmadang Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Organizing Committee)” has opened its office and begun its official activities.

 

On May 22nd, at 3:30 PM, Kukkiwon held the plaque unveiling ceremony and opening ceremony were at the office located in Mojeon-dong, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do in the presence of Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, Mayor Shin Hyun-guk of Mungyeong and other key executives of the Organizing Committee and Mungyeong city officials.

 

Prior to the event, Lee Dong-sup, President of Kukkiwon and concurrently the head of the Hanmadang, personally awarded appointment letters to 10 key executives, including Chairman Lee Sung-woo of the Organizing Committee.

 

This year, the Organizing Committee appointed Lee Sung-woo, Chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Taekwondo Association, as the Chairman, Lee Baek-woon, Chairman of the Kukkiwon Technical Review Committee, Im Jong-seop, Chairman of the Mungyeong City Taekwondo Association and Kwon Ki-deok, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Taekwondo Association, as Vice Chairmen.

 

Lee Gyung-sook, Director of the Kukkiwon Business Team, was appointed as the Secretary-General in charge of practical affairs, Lee Sang-cheol, Vice Chairman of the Mungyeong City Taekwondo Association, as the Deputy Secretary-General and Sim Myung-gu, Senior Deputy Chairman of the Kukkiwon Technical Review Committee, as the Head of Competition Headquarters. Lee Jae-deok, Executive Director of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Taekwondo Association, was appointed as the Head of Planning and Operations Headquarters, Na Young-jip, Chief of the Kukkiwon International Strategy Team, as the Head of Emergency Headquarters, and Song Pil-soo, Publisher of World Taekwondo News, as the Head of Public Relations Headquarters.

After the appointment ceremony, the introduction of the Hanmadang by Chairman Lee Sung-woo gave an introduction to the Hanmadang, greetings were given and the plaque unveiling ceremony was held.

 

"We welcome President Lee Dong-sup who visited Mungyeong, a city that is growing with the power of positivity. Although it may be a short period, I will do my best to make the operations of the Organizing Committee and the preparation for the World Taekwondo Hanmadang go as smoothly as possible" spoke Mungyeong Mayor Shin Hyun-guk.

 

"More than 5,000 members of the global taekwondo family will visit Mungyeong for the World Taekwondo Hanmadang. This will be a great opportunity for Mungyeong to be recognized and promoted globally. I hope that the successful hosting of the Hanmadang will allow Kukkiwon and Mungyeong City to leap forward" said Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup in his greetings.

 

The “2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Hanmadang” scheduled to be held from July 26th (Fri) to 30th (Tue) at Seonseung Hall in Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps in Mungyeong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, will feature a total of 15 events and 94 categories including demonstration events.

 

The addition of sparring and practical self-defense events and increase in participation age groups for official poomsae and power breaking events are expected to make this year's Hanmadang particularly popular.

 

Registrations can be submitted online on the Hanmadang website (https://hanmadang.kukkiwon.or.kr/index.do) until June 25th (Tue).

 

On the same day, at Mungyeong City Hall, Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, and Shin Hyun-guk, Mayor of Mungyeong, exchanged the memorandum of understanding they signed in writing last April, promising mutual cooperation and support for the successful hosting of the Hanmadang.
