IOC Vice President Ser Miang Ng Visits Kukkiwon and Promises to Cooperate for the Development of Kukkiwon
IOC Vice President Ser Miang Ng meets Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup on January 29 (Mon) 11 AM at Kukkiwon President’s Office
Ser Miang Ng, the Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), visited Kukkiwon and expressed his commitment to work for the development of Taekwondo.
Vice President Ng who came to Korea to attend the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics, visited Kukkiwon and met with Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup on January 29th (Mon) at 11 a.m. Ng promised mutual cooperation while showing support for the new challenges in Taekwondo.
“The IOC is interested in introducing virtual forms of e-sports that involve physical movement to attract the younger generations. Last year in June, we held the 1st Olympic Esports Week (OEW) in Singapore and Virtual Taekwondo was featured as one of the main events” said Vice President Ser Miang Ng.
“Virtual Taekwondo demonstration matches took place at the recent Winter Youth Olympic Games and we also have plans to host the inaugural Virtual Taekwondo Championship in Singapore later this year. Kukkiwon’s role is crucial in developing Taekwondo so we would like to ask Kukkiwon for its support and cooperation for the development of virtual Taekwondo and e-sports“ explained Ng.
“Vice President Ng was Kukkiwon’s Honorary Chairman of the Board and I would like to express my deepest administration for Vice President Ser Miang Ng's passion for Taekwondo. Preserving the essence of Kukkiwon as a martial art and always striving to develop Taekwondo towards a new direction, Kukkiwon will provide support as much as possible“ said President Lee Dong-sup.
Vice President Ser Miang Ng was appointed as an Honorary Chairman of the Board of Kukkiwon in February 2018 and served as an honorary chairman until October 2022.
