Kukkiwon and the World Taekwondo (WT) signed the ‘Agreement for the Development of Global Taekwondo’ and decided to further strengthen the partnership.

At the WT Secretariat office in Jung-gu, Seoul at 11 AM on March 10, the ‘Kukkiwon-World Taekwondo Agreement Signing Ceremony for Global Taekwondo Development’ was held in the presence of Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, WT President Cho Jung-won and other officials from both organizations.

Both organizations have agreed to cooperate with national federations, continental federations, and global Taekwondo leaders on the principle of mutual trust as partners for the development of Taekwondo.

WT has designated Kukkiwon as a cooperative organization for Taekwondo Poom and Dan promotion and has decided to lead from the front to promote the Kukkiwon Dan Certificate worldwide.

In addition, WT has also decided not to allow participants who do not possess the Kukkiwon's Poom or Dan certificate to participate in all competitions hosted or approved by the WT by defining the qualification requirements for players as ‘Kukkiwon Poom and Dan certificate holders’ and specifying such requirements in the WT rules and regulations.

Furthermore, to expand mutual exchanges with national federations, Kukkiwon will establish 'Kukkiwon Global Committee' assigning presidents of national federations or chairpersons of martial arts committees under such national federations as ex officio members. Kukkiwon and WT will also discuss about research on Taekwondo as martial arts, Taekwondo academic conference, evaluation training and complaints on Poom & Dan promotion during the WT General Assembly or at the time and place determined by Kukkiwon. 

Kukkiwon makes it as a principle to delegate martial arts taekwondo projects including education support and overseas evaluation to each national federation under the WT, and decides to implement such projects first in the countries where the Kukkiwon Martial Arts Committee is established. However, Kukkiwon will separately determine the scope of delegation of each project.

President Lee Dong-sup of Kukkiwon said, “Through this agreement, we have solidified the cooperative relationship between Kukkiwon and the World Taekwondo” and added, “In the future, we will focus on transforming Kukkiwon into a global organization as well as expanding our overseas business.”
