The performance arena in Kukkiwon’s main building will be used as an instructor training hall and poom and dan promotion testing hall starting in 2023.

Kukkiwon, the “World Taekwondo Headquarters” announced that the stage and blackout curtains in the main building will be removed from December 27 to 29 and starting in 2023, the space will be used for training instructors living in the capital area and for poom and dan promotion tests.

The stage and blackout curtains will be removed but the lighting, sound system and truss will be left untouched and be used for performances in the future.

The reason Kukkiwon removed the stage in the main building is because of safety concerns regarding the stage and the requests of instructors living in the capital area.

The stage which was built in 2015 had not been used for almost 3 years since 2020 and there were many safety concerns regarding the stage. The blackout curtains installed for performances were also getting old and Kukkiwon had to make some changes to create a brighter and more pleasant environment for the visitors from all around the world.

Requests from some instructors also hastened the removal of the stage. Instructors complained of costs and difficulties in having to go to Taekwondowon in Muju for their training and tests. There were many talks of instructors wanting to train somewhere close to their home.

Kukkiwon is relieved that there won’t be safety issues once the stage is removed. Also, although the space will be limited, the main building can now be used for training instructors living in the capital area and for poom and dan promotion tests.

The stage was originally built in 2015 and had been used until 2019. It had been used to show many exciting and entertaining Taekwondo performances to visitors from all over the world and played a pivotal role in making Taekwondo a great tourism content.
