Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Academy (WTA) held the “86th International Taekwondo Master Course” and the “40th Poom and Dan Promotion Examiner Course” for foreigners.
A total of 100 foreign trainees including 54 from 21 countries for the International Taekwondo Master Course (Class 1, 2 and 3) held for 5 days from July 8 (Fri) to July 12 (Tue) and 46 from 17 countries for the Poom and Dan Promotion Examiner Course (Class 1, 2 and 3) held from July 13 (Wed) to July 15 (Fri).
Once a year in Korea, WTA carries out these training courses to improve foreign Taekwondo instructors’ skills, to train competent and fair examiners and ultimately to further promote and improve Taekwondo as a global sport.
These courses reopened for the first time in 3 years, had been temporarily suspended since the last training courses carried out in July 2019 because international travel had become very challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The training courses covered △Taekwondo History and Spirit △Regulations and Rules on Promotion Tests, △Examination Theory and Scoring Method, △Terminology and Basic Techniques, △Poomsae (Color Belt Holders and Black Belt Holders) △Demonstration △Competition △Self-Defence Techniques.
This year’s International Taekwondo Master Course was particularly well-received because Lee Kyu-seok, the President of the Asian Taekwondo Association carried out a special 2-hour training on “Taekwondo Instructors’ Attitude”.
