Kukkiwon to Support Ukrainian Taekwondo Families Worth USD 20,000 |
Exemption of promotion test fee and delivery of funds and goods … Including support for the operation of the Ukraine Taekwondo Union who evacuated to Poland
|
Kukkiwon provides funds and supplies, approximately USD 20,000 in value, for Ukrainian Taekwondo families suffering from the ravages of war.
In March, the Ukraine Taekwondo Federation (UTF) sent a request to Kukkiwon for an exemption of promotion test fees on the grounds that all documents and records were lost due to the bombing, and overseas remittances were also blocked.
Accordingly, Kukkiwon has decided to waive approximately USD 2,000 of Poom & Dan promotion test fees for 35 trainees of Ukrainian nationality who have passed the Taekwondo Poom & Dan promotion test.
In addition, Kukkiwon concluded that additional measures were needed besides exemption of promotion test fees. Upon prompt consultations with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kukkiwon decided to support the UTF officials who left Ukraine and fled to Poland with their safe stay and stable operation of the association.
Kukkiwon initially donated USD 5,000 to the UTF for damages of the war, and Kukkiwon plans to provide up to USD 5,000 to support the operation of ‘Ukrainian Taekwondo Open Cup’ scheduled to be held in Poland from June 24 to 26.
Furthermore, supplies worth approximately USD 8,000 were also sent ―including 200 Taekwondo uniforms, 200 t-shirts, disposable masks, and disinfecting wipes.
Supplies provided by Kukkiwon will be delivered to the officials of UTF through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Warsaw, Poland.
Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup said, “Ukrainian taekwondo families have lost their homes due to the war and are leading a difficult life,” and added “our support would not resolve all the difficulties they are facing, but I hope that the Ukrainian Taekwondo families and the UTF officials will be able to survive the bitter crisis without losing hope.”
