Kukkiwon launches its 50-year History Compilation Project.
This 50-year History Compilation is the Kukkiwon’s historical piece to be written for the first time in 10 years since the publication of the 40-year History Compilation in 2012. Marking the 50th anniversary of the opening of Kukkiwon, the publication has the purpose of helping the public understand Kukkiwon and increase interest.
It also aims to provide primary information and data necessary for the study of Taekwondo history by illuminating the footsteps of Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters.
In particular, Kukkiwon plans not only to add the contents of 10 years after its 40-year History Compilation, but also to feature new revised and supplementary contents on reviews and analysis of historical facts related to Kukkiwon from various angles from before its opening in 1972 to the present.
In order to achieve its goal and for the efficient promotion of the 50-year History Compilation Project, the Compilation Committee has been formed with experts with extensive experience in compiling Taekwondo histories.
Chaired by Kim Mu-cheon (Deputy Chief of Administration of Kukkiwon), the Compilation Committee comprises the following members: Kim Yeong-seon (Lecturer at Yonsei University and Kukkiwon Taekwondo history textbook author), Seo Wan-seok (Senior Reporter of Daily Sports Today, former Director of Kookmin Ilbo, and Chief Executive Author of life history research on Lee Jong-woo, the Taekwondo elder), Seo Seong-won (Editor of TaekwonBox Media, member of the 40-year History Compilation Committee of Kukkiwon, and member of the 50-year History Compilation Committee of the Korea Taekwondo Association), Park Seong-jin (Editor of Inside Taekwondo, person in charge of overseas distribution/launching history of Taekwondo in Europe at Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, and former Editor of Taekwondo (magazine) at the Korea Taekwondo Association), and others.
Kim Hong-cheol, Head of the Public Relations Team at Kukkiwon, who served as a managing editor for the 40-year History Compilation Committee of Kukkiwon and the Historical Compilation Committee of the Korea Taekwondo Association, was appointed as the Managing Editor.
The Compilation Committee held its first meeting at 10AM on November 26 at the Kukkiwon Deputy Chief of Administration’s office, and discussed the editorial direction, contents of writing and research of the 50-year History Compilation.
Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup said, “50-year History Compilation is a monumental project of Kukkiwon, which will mark its half-century-long history by next year” and added, “This re-establishment of history will be a meaningful opportunity to understand how Kukkiwon has contributed to the development of Taekwondo and what will be its future tasks.”
