The Republic of Korea (ROK) had the honor to host the “FEALAC Forum on Promotion of Traditional Sports” as a part of FEALAC national projects in Seoul during November 17-18, 2011.

Kukkiwon, as one of 8 speakers, presented ’Policy on Diffusion and Exchange of Traditional Sports’ in this forum.

The other speakers from East Asia and Latin America introduced excellent precedents of ’Policy on Promotion and Diffusion of Traditional Sports’ like Capoeira of Brazil, traditional sports of Mongolia. And they also released strategies for development and interchange extension of Traditional Sports among member countries.

President Kang said, "As the supervisor of this forum, I hope this will be a motive to share an importance topic on promotion and mutual exchanges of Traditional Sports."

He also said, "We’ll foster young talents to help the international society by WTA and to hold Taekwondo in common in the whole world.", and "We’ll also cooperate in exchange for supporting of Sports by global networks, lecturing tour, Cultural Partnership Initiative, Master Internship program."

FEALAC is the only multilateral council among 36 countries. It aims to promote cooperation, better understanding between East Asia and Latin America in order to achieve more effective, cooperative, and fruitful relations in all areas.

The Republic of Korea (ROK) was active as a co-chairman country for working group in policy, culture, education from 2009 to August 2011. ROK drew up this forum due to new addition of ’international cooperation in sports’.

※What is FEALAC?

The Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) is an association of 36 countries from East Asia and Latin America that came together for the first time to form an official and regular dialogue channel between the two regions.

FEALAC mainly consists of regular meetings held at three levels: the Foreign Ministers, the Senior Officials and the Working-Level Officials. The Core Group meetings are also held among FEALAC coordinators and other interested countries to facilitate the FEALAC process.
